World Folic Acid Awareness Week

This week is World Folic Acid Awareness Week, taking place from 1st – 7th January 2025. The UK Department of Health recommend that you take a daily 400µg supplement of folic acid (or 5mg if you are at higher risk of neural tube defects) for at least one month before and for at least the first trimester of pregnancy. It can also be beneficial to take it for at least 3 months before conception, to safeguard your nutritional stores.

Supplemental folic acid intake increases maternal folate status. Low maternal folate status is a risk factor in the development of neural tube defects in the developing foetus.

Pregnacare is proud to support charity Shine and the Folic for Life campaign to raise awareness of folic acid and aim to reduce the risk of Neural Tube Defects (NTDs) in the developing foetus. Shine provides specialist support from before birth and throughout the life of anyone living with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus, as well as to parents, families, carers and professional care staff to enable people affected to get the best out of life. Pregnacare Conception Max Supplements

Providing the ultimate nutritional support for women trying to conceive in the Pregnacare range, Pregnacare Conception Max contains a comprehensive range of 22 nutrients plus an Omega-3 capsule to help support your reproductive health, from the UK’s No. 1 pregnancy supplement brand.

Taken daily, Pregnacare Conception Max supplements:

  • Contain 400µg folic acid in the L-Methylfolate form (an advanced form of folic acid). 400µg is the exact level recommended by the UK Department of Health for all women trying to conceive (to be taken at least one month prior to conception). Supplemental folic acid intake increases maternal folate status. Low maternal folate status is a risk factor in the development of neural tube defects in the developing foetus. Folic acid also plays a role in the process of cell division and contributes to maternal tissue growth during pregnancy.
  • Provides increased levels of nutrients compared to Pregnacare Conception: Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Selenium, Magnesium, Coenzyme Q10, N-Acetyl Cysteine and Inositol.
  • With zinc which contributes to normal fertility and reproduction.
  • Also contains a high purity Omega-3 fish oil capsule, providing essential fatty acids DHA and EPA. During pregnancy, maternal intake of DHA contributes to normal foetal brain and eye development.
