How Are The Popular Baby Names In the US Determined?
The annual baby name stats, released to coincide with Mother’s Day, are determined by the American Social Security Administration (SSA) data, based on applications for Social Security cards.
According to the latest data from the SSA, 3.61 million babies were born in the US in 2024 – an increase from 3.59 million the previous year – which indicates an increase in the national birthrate.
In the UK, baby name stats are compiled by the Office Of National Statistics (ONS) from first names recorded when live births are registered.
