Everything You Need To Know About Vitamins For Kids
It’s recommended by the UK Department of Health that children should be given a supplement containing vitamin A, vitamin C and vitamin D until they are five years old. These nutrients are very important for growing kids and they may not be getting enough of these if they are not eating a balanced diet. Vitamin D contributes to the normal growth and development of bone in children.
The UK Department of Health recommends that breastfed babies from birth to 1 year old should be given a daily supplement containing 8.5 to 10 micrograms of Vitamin D every day, whether or not you're taking a supplement containing vitamin D yourself.
Formula-fed babies consuming more than 500ml of infant formula per day should not be given vitamin supplements, as infant formula is fortified with vitamins. The UK Department of Health recommends that children between the ages of 1 to 4 should be given a daily supplement containing 10 micrograms (µg) of Vitamin D.
For kids over 5 years old, you should consider giving a daily supplement containing 10 micrograms (µg) of vitamin D during the autumn and winter.
In the sunnier months, most people can get all the vitamin D they need through sunlight on their skin and from a balanced diet. You may choose not to give your child a vitamin D supplement during these months. All of our Vitamin D supplements for kids contain the recommended levels of Vitamin D, in the D3 form, the body’s preferred form of Vitamin D.
These include Wellbaby Vitamin D Drops, Wellkid Peppa Pig Vitamin D (3-7 years) Wellkid Marvel Vitamin D (7-14 years).
Ensuring adequate intake of the right vitamins and minerals can play an important role in helping support your child’s immune system.

The UK Department of Health recommends that:
- babies, from birth to one year old, who are being breastfed should be given a daily supplement containing 8.5 to 10 micrograms (µg) of Vitamin D to make sure they get enough. This is whether or not you are (the breastfeeding mother) taking a supplement containing Vitamin D yourself.
- babies fed infant formula shouldn’t be given a Vitamin D supplement if they’re having more 500ml (about a pint) of infant formula a day, as infant formula has vitamins added to it.
- children from one to 4 years should be given a daily supplement containing 10µg of vitamin D.
