In a time when food insecurity continues to impact millions, Vitabiotics Wellkid has proudly joined forces with FareShare charity, to support the health and well-being of children across the UK. As the UK’s No.1 vitamin company, Vitabiotics are committed to ensuring that children have access to essential nutrients as part of a balanced diet.

Through this collaboration, Wellkid has funded the equivalent of 110,000 meals to FareShare, which redistributes surplus food to thousands of charities nationwide. This partnership is more than just a charitable contribution—it reflects Wellkid’s commitment to tackling pressing societal challenges and ensuring that children from all backgrounds have access to quality food to support their overall wellbeing.

What is FareShare Charity?

FareShare is the UK’s leading food redistribution charity. By taking good food and ensuring it reaches people in need quickly via a network of over 8,000 charity partners and volunteers. Established in 1994, FareShare partners with supermarkets, food producers, and suppliers to redirect surplus food to a nationwide network of over 8,000 charities and community groups.

For millions of families, access to nutritious food remains a challenge - with 3 million children facing food insecurity. FareShare’s work is essential in ensuring that children from all backgrounds have access to meals that support their daily energy and development needs.

By working together, we can maximise the social impact of surplus food: supporting and strengthening communities so they thrive. By redistributing surplus food to people, FareShare helps reduce food waste and the associated emissions, while helping people in need.

Did you know? In 2023, the food FareShare redistributed would have cost charities an estimated £184 million to purchase.

How Does FareShare Work?

The UK wastes 4.6 million tonnes of edible food each year—enough to make 10 billion meals—while one in seven people struggle to afford healthy food.

FareShare accounts for one third of all food redistributed in the UK. Through a network of over 8,000 local charities, with 17 network partners, and over 25,000 volunteers, FareShare reaches a million people in need each year, including via children’s breakfast clubs, older people’s lunch groups, and grassroots organisations that tackle isolation and hardship.

Through food, communities are wholeheartedly invested in and as a result, strengthened - whilst reducing waste and associated emissions.

What is the Vision of FareShare?

FareShare’s vision is a sustainable food system where no good food goes to waste. By redistributing surplus food to those who need it most, we strengthen communities and reduce food waste, a significant driver of the U.K.’s greenhouse gas emissions.

FareShare’s charity partners do more than feed people – they provide other vital services, such as mental health support, help with finding a job, or childcare, which go beyond addressing hunger and nutrition to promote physical and psychological wellbeing.

What is the Impact of FareShare’s Work?

Beyond redistributing food, FareShare’s work has a profound impact on people’s lives, well-being, and prospects:

  • 7 in 10 people supported by FareShare’s charity partners report eating more nutritious food
  • Fewer people skip meals due to financial hardship
  • Increased sense of community and connection
  • Employability Schemes offer practical training and job support, helping people secure paid work in the food industry and beyond.

FareShare volunteers gain valuable skills while helping get food to those who need it most.
